What happens

Pim and Pax watch the pink sunrise from the top of the snow hill, slide down on their tummies, and dive for fish — until a chilly wind comes up and there is nowhere warm to be found. Pim has one soft red scarf, so they share it. Then they find a baby penguin alone, and share it again. Then another penguin, shivering by the fishing hole. One by one the group grows until everyone is in one big circle with the wind whooshing harmlessly around the outside.

Why it works at bedtime

A cozy-ending winter story about the arithmetic of sharing, where the answer keeps coming out as more rather than less. The last pages are stars, yawns, and a whole huddle of penguins falling asleep.
