What happens

Rusty the fox stayed too late at play, and a soft grey fog has crept over the woods. Papa's lantern makes a warm gold circle; Rusty takes one step at a time and finds he's not the only one lost — a hedgehog, then a duckling, then an owl in a hollow tree. He holds the light high and leads them all, step by step, up a hill where the fog melts away and every cozy home glows below.

Why it works at bedtime

Courage here looks like keeping the light on for someone else while you're still scared yourself. Each friend gets walked home before Rusty follows the last glow to his den, where Papa is waiting. It closes with the lantern hung up and Rusty asleep.
