What happens
Stella is a little weaver bird with soft yellow feathers and one big dream: the coziest nest in the whole wide world. So she sets out, and takes all day, and collects exactly one thing from each place — one soft blade of grass from the meadow, one bendy reed from the river, one rose petal, one downy feather from the pine wood, one shining straw, a tuft of moss, a curl of silvery vine. A bee tells her it'll take forever. A mouse asks why she doesn't give up. She says good things are worth the wait, and keeps going.
Why it works at bedtime
A patience story for a child who wants everything finished immediately, and a lovely slow shape for the end of the day: the sun climbs, the sun sinks, and the weaving happens by starlight. It ends with Stella curled up snug in the nest she took her time over.
