What happens
The big dragons breathe hot orange fire, roast marshmallows with it and light up the night. Drake takes the biggest breath he can manage and produces one small puff of gray smoke. The other young dragons giggle, and he goes and hides behind a rock. Then a fog rolls into the valley so thick that nobody can see their own claws and the little animals can't find their way home — and the big dragons' fire only makes more smoke. Drake takes the deepest breath of his life and blows something else entirely.
Why it works at bedtime
For the child who is sure they're the only one who can't do the thing everyone else can. The gift turns out to be the useful one, and on the last page Drake is blowing soft breezes to rock his friends to sleep.
