What happens
Autumn arrives, the leaves come down swish-swish, and Bramble the bear yawns an enormous yawn: winter is coming, and bears sleep the whole way through it. But first there are things to do. A fish caught at the river, a bush of ripe berries eaten up munch-munch, a dry cave found at the foot of a hill, and armful after armful of soft leaves carried in to make a bed. Then goodnight to the birds flying south, goodnight to the squirrel with her nuts, goodnight to the last flower of fall.
Why it works at bedtime
A hibernation story that is essentially one long, gentle bedtime routine — get warm, get fed, make the bed, say goodnight to everything. Snow starts falling on the last few pages and the forest goes still and white.
