What happens
Lily the squirrel and Jake the mouse set out to bake Granny a birthday cake — eggs, butter, sugar, batter stirred round and round. Ding! The cake comes out all leany and wobbly. They look at each other with worried eyes — then decide it is perfect because they made it. Pink frosting in thick happy swirls, red berries on top, one wonky candle that tips left. Granny arrives, eyes twinkling: best cake ever. And she means it.
Why it works at bedtime
Imperfection as love. The burrow glows with party light while Lily and Jake yawn, proud of their wonderful wobbly cake.
